Sunbird Group Supports Mental Health Advocacy Campaign

Malawi’s well known hospitality firm, Sunbird Tourism PLC has supported the Lilongwe Music Festival slated for this month end.
The Lilongwe music festival is said to have been organized to bring together artists in the country in a fight against issues of gender based violence and mental health whose effects has resulted in rising cases of suicide.
In an interview with Prime Time News after presenting their support earlier this week, the Group’s Sales & Marketing Manager Temwa Kanjadza, said they thought of financially supporting the event as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.

Kanjadza told this publication that Sunbird Tourism PLC values the lives of people and said after being notified of the event, they saw it important to have a a hand on it.
She said their agreement with organizers of the function is that, the hospitality institution will cover all accommodation costs of both local and international artists who are expected to perform at the most anticipated festival.

“After being approached by the organizers of the event, we never hesitate but nodding to their request since the core issues that the organizers are championing are so dear to Sunbird Tourism PLC

“We have then agreed with the organizer that our company will cover some accommodation charges for some of the big artists and accommodation rates at our Lilongwe and Capital hotel, will be on promotion for patrons of the event,” said Kanjadza.
Kanjadza further said, the fight against gender based violence, need concerted efforts and so too dealing with issues to do with mental health hence Sunbird’s gesture.
The Lilongwe Music Festival which will take place at Lilongwe Golf Club from 29th-30th October, has been organized by an advocacy group, LiFest and it is reported that the funds will help in raising awareness for the fight.
From the international scene, the event will see performances from Chris Martin from Jamaica, Shekhinah from South Africa and Joe Boy from Nigeria while local artists will include: Patience Namadingo, Taygrin and many other.
