The Chinese community in Malawi has donated Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to central region immigration office.

Confirming the development to Prime Time Media was central region immigration public relations officer Inspector Pasqually Zulu who said the group made the donation on Wednesday at the regional offices in Lilongwe.

Inspector Zulu who described the donation as so timely, said the regional offices has been having inadequate PPEs thereby leaving lives of officers at risk of contracting coronavirus as their work involves meeting different people.

“Inadequate Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) have been a biggest challenge to Immigration personnel despite its effort in making sure that jobs of the natives are being safeguarded by flushing out illegal immigrants and also enhancement of border security.

“A Big sigh of relief on the challenge have engulfed the Central Regional Immigration Office following the donation of PPEs from Members of the Chinese community in Lilongwe on Wednesday 22nd December, 2021,” said Zulu.

In his acceptance speech to the donation, the region’s Deputy Commander Stanlake Kalimanjira, indicated that the donation to the department will go a long way to minimizing the spread of this infectious disease amongst officers.

“During this festive season, we are on the ground 24/7 in making sure that our national security is enhanced while at the same time apprehending, prosecuting, deporting and repatriating illegal immigrants.

“So, for a successful implementation of such excise, our officers need to be protected from this infectious disease, that is why we are so grateful for the donation,” said Kalimanjira.

The Deputy Regional commander further appealed to other companies and organisations to emulate the same good gesture done by the Chinese community in donating to various ministries and departments in the wake of this fourth wave of Covid-19 variant.

Chairman of the Chinese Community Mr Zhou indicated that they thought it wise to donate to the department looking at the exposure Immigration officers come across in line of duty despite Covid-19 fourth wave in our amidst .

Some of the donated items include; over 2000 facemask and over 240 hand sanitizers all worth over K300,000.
