One of Malawi’s medical insurance providers, Medical Aid Society of Malawi (MASM) has promised more improved service delivery in the coming year, 2022.
This is according to MASM Board Chairperson, Kelvin Mmangisa who was speaking on Wednesday December 29, 2021 at the end of a two-day Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held in the capital Lilongwe.
Mmangisa said compared to 2019 and 2020 when the company was heavily affected by the effects of COVID-19 pandemic, the year 2021 has been at least good and says they are so hopeful that 2022 will be so great .
The Board Chairperson further added that the medical insurance company has since lined up several interventions which will see it’s members enjoying improved and excellent medical services than ever before.
“2021 has been a mixed bag to us at Medical Aid Society of Malawi. We have done good somewhere and we have also failed somewhere. We were heavily affected by this Covid-19 pandemic but we are set for an excellent service delivery this 2022,” said Mmangisa.
Mmangisa continued to say that some of the interventions which MASM intend to introduce soon include a plan on how to give an optimal health insurance to those above 60 years.
He added that once this is introduced, those above the age of 60 will be allowed to be under a medical schemes which has not been the case as most Malawi’s Medical Insurance Companies has been criticised for barring the old aged from accessing medical aid services.
“We know that people are complaining about barring those above 60 years from accessing medical insurance, but at MASM we are still thinking on how we can solve this problem.
“The most challenging thing about this issue is that those above 60 have so many health challenges which can be costing us more resources, but all in all this issue will surely be addressed,” added Mmangisa.
However, Mmangisa has not come out clearly on when this intervention will be introduced at MASM.
